PGC1-Coaching is proud to be one of the country's first coaching programmes to be supported by The Performance Team. PGC1 works closely with the Performance Team to provide physiotherapy, gait analysis as well as strength and conditioning support for our athletes. What is the performance team?
The Performance Team provides you with expert online physiotherapy using their extensive experience with athletes of all abilities from club athletes to Olympians.
Their experience of working as part of a high-performance team with British Athletics means they know how important the team approach is to be the best you can.
They also have years of experience of working with club coaches, therapists, and family members to get the best for you as an athlete.
What makes the performance team different is that they work with you and your personal team – whoever they may be. Whether it’s with your coach, physio, massage therapist, your partner, friend, or other family members
Both Matt and Mark work closely with PGC1 in order to advise our athletes on what the best way for them to return to running, how injuries can be avoided next time round and provide individual programmes to accomodate this.
Who are the performance team?
Matt Bergin - As co-founder and Physiotherapist at Performance Team, Matt brings a wealth of experience. As an elite athlete himself having competed for Ireland and Physiotherapist to Olympic and Paralympic athletes Matt knows only too well the importance of an integrated team approach in the on-going care of athletes, no matter your ability, to allow you to perform at your very best. Matt works closely with a number of past, present, and future Olympians and Paralympians with Athletics Ireland, the Royal Dutch Athletics Federation, and a professional track team overseas. However, the majority of Matt’s work is done supporting recreational runners, club level athletes, and newcomers to the sport looking to stay injury-free, keep fit and remain healthy. Matt trained as a physiotherapist at Brunel University before gaining a scholarship to complete a Master of Science Degree at the University of New Mexico in the United States.
Mark Buckingham - Mark is a Chartered Physiotherapist and owner and director of Witty, Pask and Buckingham Physiotherapists. The experience of over 27 years has given Mark a great understanding of running and athlete issues and the background to them. Mark trained in Bath from 1990, specialising in sports physiotherapy with a post-graduate Diploma at the London Hospital. Mark worked for five years at the Arts Educational School in Tring, a leading Dance School, and spent time at the Crystal Palace Athletics Stadium Clinic. This led to work with Northampton Saints and the Great Britain Athletics squad, with highlights being the Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Olympics. Mark, also a former International Athlete himself, was responsible for setting up British Athletics' centralised physiotherapy programme at Loughborough University.
