Interval Training Sessions FAQ – PGC1 Coaching

How good do you have to be to join an interval training session?

You don't need to be an experienced or elite runner to join our interval training sessions. Our sessions are designed for runners of all abilities, from complete beginners taking on their first structured running workout to more advanced athletes training for a specific race goal. Every runner works at their own pace, and our coaches tailor the effort level, distance, and recovery time to suit each individual. If you can run continuously for around 20–30 minutes, you're ready to give interval training a try with PGC1 Coaching.

Is PGC1 Coaching an inclusive running environment?

Yes — inclusivity is at the heart of everything we do at PGC1 Coaching. Our interval sessions welcome runners of all ages, backgrounds, fitness levels, and running experience. Whether you're returning to running after a break, new to the sport, or a seasoned club runner, you'll be supported and encouraged by both our coaches and the wider running group. We believe interval training should be a positive, motivating experience for everyone, not just the fastest runners in the group.

Do the interval sessions change each week?

Yes, our interval running sessions are varied and progressive. We regularly change the session structure — including distances, repetitions, recovery periods, and running surfaces — to keep training interesting, prevent plateaus, and build well-rounded speed and endurance. Structured variety also helps reduce the risk of overuse injuries and keeps every session engaging, whether you're chasing a 5K personal best or building general running fitness.

What if I'm not fast enough for interval training?

There's no minimum pace requirement to join our interval sessions. Interval training isn't about being the fastest in the group — it's about working at your own effort level to improve your personal fitness, speed, and running economy over time. Our coaches group runners appropriately and adjust rep distances and recovery so that everyone gets an effective, achievable workout. Many runners find that interval training is actually one of the best ways to build confidence and see quick improvements, regardless of their current pace.

What running level are the interval workouts suitable for?

Our interval training sessions are suitable for all levels, from beginner and intermediate runners to advanced and competitive athletes. Sessions are structured with flexible pacing groups, so newer runners can build a solid aerobic and speed foundation, while more experienced runners can push themselves with harder efforts and shorter recoveries. Whatever your current level, our coaches will help you get the most out of every interval session safely and effectively.
